About This Waterfall

The Mehatl Falls trailhead is found at the 48km mark along the Nahatlatch River FSR near Boston Bar. The vast majority of the road is unpaved and though it is driveable in 2wd vehicles for the entire distance, there are a handful of rough patches which will test your nerves. From the end of the trail at the lower falls, scramble to the top and follow the creek upstream for just under 1/2 km further to the upper falls. The upper falls of Mehatl Creek are perhaps more visually impactful than its lower counterpart, but not quite as impressive in terms to scale or sheer complexity. Mehatl Creek plunges over a double-stepped fall of 76 feet in height, then makes a sharp right turn to flow down a long trough carved in the granite bedrock as it proceeds to the lower falls. From the ridge bounding the creek into the trough, views out across the isolated Nahatlatch Valley are numerous. Though the falls aren't terribly isolated by British Columbia standards, because Mehatl Creek Provincial Park is so underdeveloped I couldn't help but feel as if I were stranded hundreds of miles from anywhere while admiring the falls - the sense of wilderness truly epitomizes the wilds of British Columbia.
