About This Waterfall
As of July 2006, the Moul Falls trailhead has been developed but it still isn’t signed from the Clearwater Valley Road. The parking are is located 20 ½ kilometers north of Clearwater, at the bottom of a dip in the road. Park and walk through the gate and walk an old logging road, following signs pointing towards the falls, until a trail branches left where signs direct you into the woods. The falls are 2 ¾ kilometers from the parking area.Grouse Creek creates one of the best of the front country waterfalls in Wells Gray Provincial Park where it hurtles 115 feet over an undercut ledge to form Moul Falls. Like all of the other waterfalls along the Clearwater rim, the falls occur where the creek has eroded down to the basalt flows which comprise the sides of the Clearwater Canyon. The undercut behind the falls is deep enough that it is possible to traverse the cavern to reach the opposite side of the creek without fording, but you will likely get wet from the spray of the falls.Grouse Creek had bore several names in throughout the 20th century. Originally known as Beaver Creek, it took on the current Grouse Creek in 1914. In the 1930s it was changed to Moul Creek and the falls were given the same title, after Charlie Moul who homesteaded nearby. In the late 1970s the name Grouse Creek gradually came back into use and was formally adopted in 1990. The name of the falls, surprisingly, never changed through the whole ordeal but wasn't made official until 1983.
