About This Waterfall
Silverton Falls is accessed from the Rockbound Lake trail along the Bow Valley Parkway in Banff National Park. Exit Highway 1 at Castle Junction, cross the Bow River, turn right on the Bow Valley Parkway and the trailhead will be on the left side of the road in about 200 meters. Though the trail is signed all the way to the falls, several unmarked spurs will get you to the falls as well. The official spur trail to the falls splits off 1/3 km from the trailhead and the falls are reached just under a kilometer from the trailhead. The base of the falls can be reached by following the creek from the first switchback encountered.Silverton Falls is a surprisingly significant waterfall tucked deep in a narrow canyon near Castle Junction in Banff National Park. The falls drop a total of about 165 feet, but this occurs over 7-8 tiers. The primary part of the falls, near the top, consists of a 20 foot drop followed by two 40 footers. The final 60 feet of the falls cannot be seen from the trailside viewpoint, but it is possible to follow a boot path to the base of the falls where scrambling alongside the falls will reveal several combinations of the many lower tiers. Silverton Creek is fed by Rockbound Lake, so it maintains a consistent flow all year, though outside the peak of snowmelt season it isn't a large stream so the small size of Silverton Creek near the trailhead should not be seen as an indication of the quality of the waterfall. In fact, the creek splits into two channels shortly below the falls which do not merge before the stream empties into the Bow River, so it always appears to be a smaller stream than it really is at the falls.
