About This Waterfall
Søtefossen is first and largest of the four major waterfalls which occur along the river Kinso as it tumbles off of the Hardangervidda plateau toward Sørfjorden. The falls drop approximately 225 meters (740 feet) in two steps, first a twisting horsetail type fall which becomes a sheer vertical drop about halfway down its fall of about 150 meters, then in a rumbling cascade which splits into two segments that crash another 75 meters into a large lagoon below the falls. The upper and lower tiers of the falls are separated by about 300 linear meters, a distance of which would merit splitting the two drops into their own entries in the database, however there is long standing precedent that both drops are considered part of the same waterfall.
