About This Waterfall
Tveitafossen can be found adjacent to the powerhouse at the bottom of Husedalen near Kinsarvik. Take Route 13 to Kinsarvik and follow the signs to Husedalen and Tveitafossen. The falls and powerhouse are found 4km from Route 13. There is limited parking along Ullensvangvegen between Kinsarvik and the powerhouse (and parking at the powerhouse may no longer be permitted). A large public parking lot is also located in Kinsarvik near the bridge over the river Kinso.Tveitafossen is the fourth and final of the numerous large waterfalls along the Kinso River as it tumbles from the Hardanger plateau. Tveitafossen is also the only of the four waterfalls not protected within Hardangervidda National Park, and as a result the falls have been regulated within a hydroelectric system. The falls occur as the river passes over a small dam and sheets out over a huge, bulbous protrusion of granite bedrock and thunders 90 meters (295 feet) before resuming its less boisterous course. The dam will draw off the majority of the river’s volume during most of the year, however when we surveyed the falls in June 2011, we found the river to be flowing with such force and volume that taking pictures proved to be nearly impossible.
